About

Judy Anderson - Designer

Hi There !

I’m Judy, founder, designer at DesignMotiv.

I’m an Australian designer with a uniquely diverse set of skills and knowledge, specialising in Surface Pattern and Garment Design.

I describe my design handwriting as elegantly playful, full of colour, with a hint of the quirky.  I’m highly inspired by florals, old new, modern or graphic, with a few bugs, butterflies, and the odd spider thrown in for good measure!

As a designer, I keep up to date on trends and I’m passionate about researching the details to bring a unique and fresh style to my print designs.

My number one focus is to share my wealth of knowledge by supporting businesses that have a need for a little extra expertise in surface patterning, textiles, fashion design and product development.

The Journey…

My creative journey in the design industry started a good 20 years or so ago… when at the age of 17, I moved from my parent’s farm on the Mid North Coast of NSW to Sydney and became a part of the Australian Fashion Industry.

My formal training is originally in fashion design and patternmaking, which led to a design career specializing in corsetry and bra design, initially working for renowned Australian bra label, Berlei.

Eventually, as is the way with us Aussies… London beckoned and I announced I was leaving on a jet plane for a 2-year placement… 2 years became 10 years of amazing learnings, industry experience, global travel, and work opportunities.

London offered a mixture of working as both an in-house and freelance designer, designing bras, underwear, activewear, embroidery, and the odd print or two, for companies: Marks & Spencer, Gossard, Shock Absorber, Berlei UK & Jockey USA.

I returned to Australia in 2007 and continued freelancing to offshore and local businesses providing design and development services across swimwear, compression wear, activewear, outerwear, intimate apparel and sports accessories.  For companies:  Honey Birdette, Tigerlily, Camilla & Marc, Skins Compression, Muscle Republic, Sea Level Australia, and many more.

Exposure to print and embroidery design in the UK had ignited a passion for surface design and graphics.  So, I upskilled and completed a Diploma of Graphic Design to enhance my existing graphics skills.

I love colour and pattern and how when used well, they can effectively create an identity and an emotional connection to your customers.

My passion for print and decoration has me looking forward to the next 20 years of design!
